Story
My name is Michelle Duckett. I am a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, and an aunt—and today, I am reaching out with a heart full of sorrow and a plea for support that no parent ever imagines having to make.
My son, Cornelius Wilson, was taken from us far too soon due to a senseless act of gun violence. At just 21 years old, Cornelius’s life was full of promise, hope, and ambition. He had so much more life to live, so many dreams to chase, and so much love still to give.
Cornelius recently graduated from high school and had just enrolled at Prince George’s County Community College. He was excited about his future and explored his passion, especially his love for entrepreneurship. Just like me, he had a knack for fixing things and turning everyday skills into something greater. I turned mine into a small business to support our family, and Cornelius was following a similar path, eager to create a life of independence and purpose.
He loved his family deeply and valued his moments of peace and reflection. Cornelius was kind, thoughtful, and wise beyond his years. His loss has left a void that words cannot express, and we are devastated.
As we face the unimaginable task of laying my son to rest, I am humbly asking for your help. The suddenness of this tragedy has left us unprepared for the financial burden of funeral and burial costs. No mother should have to plan a funeral for her child, and yet, here I am—trying to give my son the peaceful and dignified farewell he deserves.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward funeral expenses and supporting our family as we grieve. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page with others.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your support. Your generosity means more than I can say.
With love and gratitude,
Michell Duckett
